What are some examples of long-term goals for health and fitness?
Here are the long-term goals of health and fitness for patients who have shared with me over the years:
- I DON'T want to have diabetes, heart disease and other chronic illnesses. I do not want to be in pain all day and spend my retirement jumping from doctor to doctor.
- I do not want to take as many pills as my father did.
- I WANT to be able to run with my older kids.
- I want to be able to play golf when I retire instead of sitting in a wheelchair.
- I want to be able to take off my shirt in the pool without being embarrassed.
- I want to dance at the wedding of my child / grandchild.
- I want to play softball until I die.
- I want to be able to work in my garden until I die.
- My wife is 30 years younger than me, and I don't want her to have all my money soon.
- I want to be able to put my palms on the_the stand.
- I want to be able to walk every day.
- I hope these can inspire you to a few long-term goals!
These may be long-term goals. Short-term goals can lead to long-term goals. Some people think that having long-term goals helps you to achieve and stick to short-term goals because your mind has the potential for doing less unpleasant work (drinking water, eating less, etc.).
The problem is that at the present time you do not realize that the decisions you make NOW will have a profound effect on your future life. As doctors we always see this. Someone has a chronic illness that could have been avoided by raising awareness about lifestyle habits over the years. Although short-term habits are tedious and may not provide immediate rewards, they will affect your future health.
I hope it helps,
