What seemed too expensive until you experienced it? Pedicure.

Even though I've had the occasional professional manicure over the years, after about 3 days the nail polish starts to peel, so I figured a more expensive pedicure wouldn't be worth the money either. And doing your own nails is not too much trouble.

Then one day in between the Covid lockdowns, my husband visited his 95 year old father in his assisted living apartment. His father wanted to cut his toenails because they hurt. My husband was horrified to see that his father's nails at that age were very thick and curved into a tight, inverted U shape, kind of like this photo, but much thicker and much worse on each toe of both feet:

After trying everything he could to trim those deformed toenails, my husband learned from an employee that a podiatrist would be coming to the facility soon. From then on, a monthly treatment by a podiatrist was enough to relieve his father's pain, although his toenails never looked normal.

This experience was enough for my husband to say, "It's time for a regular pedicure." He was afraid that his nails would go the same way if he lived long enough.

So now we go for pedicures together once a month (I still do my own manicures) and consider it a necessary expense. I get my toenails polished, he polishes his, and we enjoy the spa as an experience.

And over time, my husband got over his fear of aging and became a man with tunnel nails.
